چکیده

In current Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) the distribution of load is not distributed dynamically. But players tend to concentrate in certain regions of the game world and cause overload conditions. Therefore we propose the use of structured Peer-to-Peer technology for the server infrastructure of the MMOGs to improve the reliability and scalability. Previous work segmented the game work into rectangular areas but often split a group of players to different servers. This work presents a cluster-based P2P approach, which is able to dynamically adapt to the current state of the game and handle uneven distributions of players. We show through simulation, alsowith traces fromreal online games, that the cluster-based approach performs better than the previous P2P-based system.

Managing Scalability and Load Distribution for Large Scale Virtual Worlds

The traditional client-server approaches for handling Virtual Environments (VEs) have greatly been changed due to the significant increase in their popularity. Scalability was among the basic goals for the development of distributed and multi-server infrastructures. It is generally achieved by splitting a VE into different isolated partitions, and simulated with a set of dedicated servers. Howe...

An Adaptive Load Balancing Management for Distributed Virtual Environment Systems

Distributed Virtual Environment Systems are widely used in massively multiplayer online games. With an efficient distributed architecture and load balancing algorithm, they can support tens of thousands of players interacting with each other. In this paper, we propose an adaptive load balancing algorithm to solve the problem of the center-crowdedness in the DVE systems, while reducing the intra...

Load Balancing, Latency Management and Separation of Concerns in a Distributed Virtual World

1 Why Distributed Virtual Worlds? Although many research groups are currently designing and building virtual worlds based upon the functionality of a single hardware platform or a small number of tightly connected platforms, the need for distributing virtual worlds has been well demonstrated in domains such as ight simulators (Lee, Rissman, D'Ippolito, Plinta and Van Scoy 1988) and distributed ...

On the use of Java Server Side Technologies for the Design of Dynamically Redeployable MMOGs

The number of players participating in Massively Multiplayer Online games is going beyond the millions, an efficient software architecture is needed to manage these huge digital worlds and cope with the dynamically changing loads at the server side. These virtual environments are more and more dynamic and sudden increases in player density in a part of the world have an impact on the load of th...

A Dynamic Load Distribution Algorithm for Virtual Worlds

The introduction of modern communication and computation technologies has greatly changed the traditional approaches processing computationally intensive applications such as Virtual Environments (VEs). Distributed and multi-server architectures are scalable and exploit the concepts of spatial and temporal locality for handling massive Distributed VEs (DVEs). However, using these environments r...
